The maximum screen resolution, even when entered manually seems to be full hd (1920x1080) which looks really bad on a 4k (3840x2160) monitor. Everything seems to be blurry. Is there a way to increase the resolution? Many thanks!
the screen resolution is not limited. Yes, the biggest resolution in the selection list is HD, but you can click there onto full screen and then the next is showing in the resolution input field the native resolution of your monitor and switches automatically into full screen mode.
All the best, Klaus

Thanks for the fast reply. Somehow the app was suck at FullHD in full-screen mode so clicking on either of those two buttons (or typing a larger value manually) didn't had any effect. However, switching to a lower resolution and clicking on full-screen afterwards fixed the problem. It's now running smoothly at 4k. Many thanks!
If I click on a low resolution and then click on Full Screen on my 15" MacBook Pro 2017, it switches to 1680 x 1050, but my native retina resolution is 2880 x 1800. I have tried using the Set Own button, but that also reverts to 1680 x 1050.
Yes, I know. The Unity3D game engine doesn't support Retina displays on OSX. The reason is what you have written. OSX doesn't report the real pixel resolution.
HiDpi displays on Windows or Linux systems are supported very well. That's because they are reporting always the real pixel resolution.

Unfortunately not... that's because OSX reports the lower screen resolution. I don't know how Apple has designed their API for this in detail. For a while, Unity3D was able to use the full resolution in full screen mode. But no chance in window mode. My personal opinion is that Apple's API is rubbish as long as it's not working automatically. The idea behind this API is simple. They thought, then the programs have not to be adapted to their Retina displays because the size of icons and text is still the same... only doubled pixels and worse quality.
And the other problem is the Unity3D staff... since 2012 the Retina displays are available and still no support in 2018. They have announced it now a few weeks ago, but only in a new Unity3D version (for which I have to pay a monthly fee).
By the way... I'm not using the Laptop screen on my MacBook Pro because everything is way too small and so shiny :-) I've connected an 2,5K ASUS monitor without any reflections.
