Crashes every time I try to load this scenery.

I think, your graphic card cannot show these scenery. There are 3d grass and 3d trees included.

5k retina iMac (15,1), with R9 M295X.

Any other files I can delete to see if it's a scene/data problem?

A X3D scenery itself needs a lot of graphic render power. When you run the neXt in a window, you save a lot of memory. Maybe then you can load the scenery.
