I am new to this hobby and want to get the Next simulator and wireless sim but I am not sure how to get my futaba 14gs radio to work with the wireless sim, the instructions on the web are not clear to me. why does the sim have to connected to the helicopter receiver?

You need a receiver for getting the signal into the RX2SIM. The RX2SIM has no receiver included. That's the reason why it's compatible to all known transmitters where a receiver is available.
Then your T14SG sends the signal to your receiver. The receiver is connected to the RX2SIM and sends the signal to the computer.
yes, but it must not the best receiver. I use in my helicopters the new small receivers with sum signal and servo outputs. For example R7008SB. And you can purchase an cheap receiver for simming.
