Feature Request / Cloudy Day

I was flying in real life few days ago, and it was a cloudy day. It was really hard to fly for me, and I found it was because of heli visibility. If it is a cloudy day, but clouds form a not very thick layer, you get very bright clouds as a background, and heli which does not get any sunlight. The heli becomes black or almost black. I was flying the Kraken which is neon orange, very visible, but still it was becoming just black at a distance. In such conditions you see heli shape in general, see where the boom is, but you don't see very well how it is rotated with aileron and miss many details.

I thought it would be great if neXt could simulate that, so we could train ourselves little better for such conditions. It would be good for any cloudy day. But those where the sun behind the clouds makes them bright are really bad. It's like if you would put someone indoor at the window and make a picture of him - you would get a bright window and a black shape of someone - this is how the heli looked like.

I can imagine this could be a slider in "Scenery -> Settings", where you could change amount of heli lighting from 100% (as it is now) to 0% (completely black).

Thank you for the suggestion. I'm testing a cloudy scenery that I got yesterday. I have extended the neXt accordingly. In neXt v1.626 or higher, this feature is included. Download the scene 'Les Aigles de Battice RCA 2' and you will see a cloudy sky.

Of course, I can also add this feature to X3D sceneries later.

This looks great. This scenery plus setting "Transparency rotor dish" to 3 is getting close to what you get on a cloudy day. I would still welcome light amount slider, because sometimes heli gets even darker, especially when clouds are bright. But it's already a good thing.

BTW, radio sticks are affected by different lighting. Not a problem for me, but not sure if you noticed that :)

yes, the radio sticks get the same lightning as the whole scenery.

You can still adjust the Light Intensity and Ambient Light Daylight in the Settings > Graphics.

Thank you very much for your suggestion. Maybe I modify also the ambient light and rotor dish for the cloudy settings.

Somehow I didn't see light setting before. This is just great now, I can really simulate cloudy, darky weather now, perfect
