Hi Klaus, team and community.
Firstly, thanks for accepting me to the Forums - I noticed reddit wasnt very active, so I decided to try here.

Demo mode questions
I have possibly a very poor quality 'generic' PPM dongle and trying to get it working in the DEMO mode, back and forth assigning switches, calibration etc- I finally got it to look good in input monitor mode and other setups.. but have missing switch configurations etc

My goal in demo mode is to ascertain the following to make an educated purchase
1) Validate my dongle doesneverything I need in Next vs Reality - eg correct switches work
2) Quickly check VR quality in Next vs Reality \ standing on flight line looking at model etc.
3) How does Next handle physical switches input, eg Thold, flighht mode etc

I have wierd issues in other SIMs with the Dongle and 'seeing' all my switches, I use a very original Spectrum DX7 and JR XG8 and with same dongle, same other sim - as expected i get some different axis\buttons detected, but still not correct Thold or Fmode etc pysical switches - which is what I want to "train" on - the correct switches.

I have attached picture of input mode (*6 channels\axis\buttons only shown) - and their corrosponding physical switches.
- Separate Throttle and Collective Pitch ARE NOT visible in SIM, Windows etc - suspect this is big issue!!
- other important switches arent detected like Flight mode, Throttle hold.
- JR XG8 - picks up wider slider on far left of TX (mode 2) - and Aux 2 swithes only.
- Spektrum DX7 - picks up Aux 2 switch only (Original DX7 has no slider like XG8)

Thanks again,
DruiD

Hi Chris,

It looks like your dongle isn't sending the pitch channel. But that's not a problem. Then just use the throttle channel of your transmitter as collective pitch input for the simulator. Since we don't need a helicopter mixer, it's best to use a fixed-wing preset in your transmitter. The switches should not affect any of the four control functions. They should only affect an unused channel that is shown in the simulator (esc, tab: settings > input device: input monitor).

Dual rate, expo, pitch curves and rpm are only set in the model settings in the simulator. Each model has its own values and you can assign up to four setups per model.

I've measured the signal quality of a few compatible USB dongles and found that the RX2SIM delivers the best quality by far:
Comparison test: RX2SIM against other USB simulator adapters

Here is a short introductory video:
https://www.cgm-online.com/rc-flight-sim...next-usb_e.html

There you will also find some examples of programming a switch for autorotation mode. Some call this engine off or idle up.

If you make settings in the simulator, these settings should automatically be saved to the hard disk when the simulator is closed. If not, then a virus killer or another security program is blocking the simulator. You have to fix this in the setup of this program.

All the best,
Klaus

Thanks . Yes .. it is saving settings, just needed to properly close and re-open.

I have changed to a fixed wing model, I can set the Flight mode under functions, but it still cannot sense my proper "Throttle Hold" switch as an actual switch, for example i can set it to GEAR or AUX2 and using the Functions auto-detect switch picks that up.

With fixed wing mode, the programming in the TX doesnt have a specfic setting for Throttle hold anymore - so trying to work out what the switch would be, as mode 2 - fixed wing. Top right back switch - and potentially reassign thaat to Gear or something that can be picked up via the dongle\sim.

I do think the dongle is pretty bad.

Ok I tried the fixed (and glider) settings, tried to get any positive pitch at all for heli to lift off the ground - and nothing shown in the Input monitor either - even after recalibratying etc

Obviously all the channel assignemnts were mssed up and switches all different - as its JR with 'names' and I only have my helicopter mode 2 sticker 'names' on the switches it took a bit of checking, but its the same result with bout 2 hrs of messing around with settings, referring to the TX manual, re-setting up models etc.

Very wierd.

Step by step instructions:

- create a new fixed-wing model in your transmitter
- start neXt
- press esc
- change to the settings > input device tab
- select your stick mode
-> The input monitor window displays the incoming remote control signals. Up to 20 channels are possible depending on your dongle or adapter. Each function (collective pitch, rudder, aileron and elevator) should move a slider. If not, you have to change the channel in your transmitter to an other channel. For Futaba you can do this easily in the transmitters function menu. Your USB interface may be incompatible when you have tried all other channels without getting a response in the input channel overview.

- then click on start calibration and follow the instructions there
- select your stick mode also in settings > output device

Now you are able to fly all models in the simulator.

And if you like to use any special functions, like autorotation, you have to assign the switch you like to a free output channel in your transmitter. Of course, your USB adapter should submit this channel to the computer. You can check this in the Input Monitor in Settings > Input Device. Then you can assign it in Settings > Input Device > Functions.

Helps this?

Thanks Klaus, I tried multiple different ways and I think I am limited to a few things here after about 3 hours of solid testing\troubleshooting
a) Generic USB dongle just doesnt do enough channels\buttons and pitch\throttle not separate
b) My older Transmitters only have limited axis\switch reassignment to different channel abiltiies - I can activate and swap things around a little bit, eg change Gyro to GEAR or AUX2\AUX3 - that sort of thing ,but cannot assign ALL functions - so in this I am stuck a bit.

I cannot make changes to my Transmitter(s) in the different model modes (Heli\Aircraft\Glider) to match what I am expecting in the Sim for my Helicopter swtiches to work accurately and act as they do in real life eg correct physical switches.

Example - Heli model type - Thold\Flight mode switches do not send through dongle - and cannot be reassigned to spare channels that the dongle sends\ is visible in Input Monitor slider. Other buttons\switches\sldiers DO send through such as AUX2 and AUX3 - but I cannot make (in the TX) my Flight mode ot Throttle hold 'switch' put out those channels. It just doesnt seem possible on my really old DX7 or even my newer, but still not latest JR XG8.

Example - Fixed Wing type - Throttle hold switch is not even an typical option in fixed wing. eg. Thold physical switch, in aircraft\fixed wing mode - is known as the MIXER switch. In setting up Fixed wing mode, those switches still doesnt send out via dongle for some reason \ show anything input mode - nor can I map it in the TX to another channel that shows in input monitor - same as in heli mode.

Conclusion :- neXt is great, but can only do what my dongle and TX are 'sending' so I cannot make the SIM work same as real life with my current TX and dongle. If I get a full channel dongle, hopefully that sends through ALL channels\switches - and I can then just figure out whatever channel is correct for those swtiches, assign those, deactivate the rest etc.

Therefore, I went ahead and ordered an RX2SIM dongle, hopefully that gives me maximium flexibility and options across different TX and ALL possible channels. I also got the RX2SIM WIRED cable coming aswell so I can try wireless with an RX and direct wired.

Thanks for all the Help!!
