Centrallised expo/dual rate settings
#1
I'm getting tired of this. I pick a new heli to try in neXt, and sometimes the cyclic is super-slow with an expo of 50%+. Sometimes it's fine at around 20% but with a tad slow rotation rates. Sometimes the tail is fine, but often it's bat-crazy fast with only 20% expo.
These are all personal "feel" preferences, and I'm tired of having to re-set them for every single heli I try in every single mode (1800 RPM, 1900 RPM, etc.).
Suggestion: remove these settings from ALL helicopters (except possibly as overrides if anyone really wants to set this per machine). Elsewhere, let the pilot set up expo/rate profiles with expo and rotation rate in degrees per second (not percentages). I'd be quite happy with one profile for all helicopters personally, but maybe some people would want more.
Then it'd finally be easy to compare different models (no tuning first).

Hi D,
the setups for most models are coming from factory team pilots. Mostly I take these setups and define the soft, medium and hard setups where dual rate, expo, maximum collective pitch and rpm is modified.
When you switch on 'Degree per Second' in Simulator > Widgets, you can adjust DualRate to get what you want. It's not really possible to add a slider for adjusting the degrees per second directly. With DualRate, you define the maximum cyclic angle of the rotor blades. Which rotation speed this will result depends to the rpm, blade profile, helicopter weight, center of gravity and the airflow on the blades. I have already tried to add this slider and got not a acceptable result. The cyclic behavior gets too electric. An other solution doing this is to switch off the physic simulation part. Then it's easy to define degrees per second. But then you cannot compare the models
In real live I use the MicroBeast in my helicopters. There is also no degree per second setting. I have only dual rate and expo for defining this. MicroBeast feels best in my opinion.
All the best,
Klaus

Hi Klaus,
I've used SK540, which has a "rotation rate" parameter, and Spirit, which has a "rotation speed" parameter. My understanding was that these specify a target rate in degrees per second, and try to achieve this in flight (obviously only succeeding if blades have sufficient power). Can you not do something similar in neXt?
I've never tried microbeast. I won't argue about which feels the best, but I know that such arguments can go on forever on the net.
Best
